Tours can start any day of the year. Depending on your arrival time, we will arrange a program that allows you to explore all of Casablanca's sights. The tour includes the Hassan II Mosque. It is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors may enter. The most distinctive characteristic of the Hassan II Mosque is its spectacular location on a platform over the Atlantic Ocean. Uniquely, part of the mosque’s floor is made of glass so worshippers can kneel directly over the sea. You will also visit the medina, Mohammed V Square, the Corniche, and the cathedral. The cathedral was built in the 1930s, and its architecture is a harmonious blend of European and Moroccan styles. Although it is now in need of serious restoration, the structure is still beautiful even in its current dilapidated state. Stay in a hotel/riad; breakfast included.
We leave the economic capital of Morocco and travel straight to the administrative capital, Rabat, which was established as the capital at the beginning of the protectorate in 1912. An imperial city from the 12th century, its rectilinear layout of the old city is impressive, as it is very different from the traditional mazes of streets. You will explore the Chellah Gardens, founded in the 3rd century B.C., and the Kasbah of the Udayas, built during the reign of the Almohads. The Hassan Tower stands out against the sky, the remnants of a mosque conceived in the 12th century. On this same esplanade stands the Mohammed V Mausoleum, a veritable little palace. Inside, finely crafted marble, bronze, and painted woods under a mahogany dome perforated with stained glass enclose the royal tombs, which are carved from a chiseled block of white onyx and rest on a slab of onyx and dark blue granite that shimmers like water. The gardens on Mechouar Square await you for a stroll by the Royal Palace. You will also visit the Archaeological Museum, which presents findings from several of the country’s archaeological sites, notably Volubilis and Lixus (Larache). We will then continue to Meknes. Its founder, Sultan Moulay Ismaël, decided to make Meknes one of the most beautiful and powerful Imperial cities in Morocco and protected it with around 40 km of walls. It has preserved imposing monuments, such as gates with beautiful sculpted canopies, several fountains, mosques, palaces, and gardens. In the afternoon, you will explore the main gate, Bab al-Mansour, which gives access to the imperial medina, and Place Lahdim.
The next morning at 9:00 a.m., our exploration of Meknes continues. We will visit its remaining treasures, including the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismaïl, the city's founder, and the elegant Jamaï Palace, which now houses the Museum of Moroccan Arts. From there, we drive to the magnificent Roman ruins of Volubilis, the largest archaeological site in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through this open-air museum and discover the city's former splendor. Its Triumphal Arch, Capitoline Temple, and intricate mosaics in the House of Bacchus all testify to its historical importance as a prosperous Roman outpost. Nearby, we will visit the holy town of Moulay Idriss, a site of great significance where Moroccan Muslims gather annually for a pilgrimage known as a "Moussem." Our journey then takes a relaxing turn as we travel a scenic route to the thermal spa of Moulay Yacoub. Here, you can unwind in its naturally hot (54°C) mineral waters, which are rich in sodium and sulphur and are renowned for their therapeutic qualities. Feeling refreshed, we will continue to Fes, the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco. As the greatest of the imperial cities, its entire ancient medina is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your accommodation will be in a traditional riad, with breakfast included.
At 9:30 a.m., a local guide will take you to wander through the medina, with its souks and alleys that are unchanged since the Middle Ages. The exploration of the Fes medina includes the tanners’ quarter, the Blue Gate (Bab Boujloud), and the vast Bou Inania Medersa, with its cedar woodwork, sculpted stucco, and marble and onyx decoration. You will admire the Tijani Zawiya (a sanctuary of a religious brotherhood) and the instrument makers’ souk before arriving at the Mzara shrine, the place where Moulay Idriss decided to build the town. You will also see Nejjarine Square and the cabinetmakers’ souk. The magnificent carved foundouk (caravanserai) on the square houses the Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts. Next, you will visit the Kissaria (covered market), where jewelry and fine fabrics are sold, and Es-Seffarine Square, the coppersmiths' square. You will also see the old Dar Batha Palace with its Arabo-Andalusian style and the Moqri Palace, which houses treasures of a rare architectural refinement. After an active morning, it's time for a driving tour of the ramparts to visit the Royal Palace gate, the Jewish Quarter, and a borj (watchtower), followed by a stop at the pottery quarter. You will be brought back to your accommodation. Breakfast is included.
At 8:30 a.m., you will begin your ascent toward the Sahara Desert, crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the morning will be spent winding your way through beautiful Berber towns like Ifrane (which means "caves" in Berber) and Azrou (meaning "stone"). Azrou is the hometown of the cedar forests, where we will stop to see the Barbary apes. You will see jagged rock faces as you cross the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains and begin to travel through the Ziz Gorges (Morocco's "Grand Canyon"). You will then descend into Erfoud, the desert gate, before heading across the barren land to the majestic Erg Chebbi sand dunes. (Erg Chebbi is the name of the sand dunes that define the Merzouga Sahara desert.) Depending on the light, the dunes can be pink, gold, or red in color. Upon arriving at the hotel, your camel will be awaiting you. Before you set off, you will get a welcoming glass of mint tea. Then, you will embark on a two-hour camel trek out to the oasis where you will spend the night in Berber tents. This is optional: if you prefer, you can take a shorter camel trek to see the sunset and then return to the hotel to sleep (for an extra 20 EURO). Dinner and breakfast are included.
After sunrise, you will return by camel to the hotel for breakfast. You will then get the room where you will sleep for the night. Today, you have two options. You can either relax by the pool or take an off-road tour through the black desert around Erg Chebbi. This tour includes visiting the oases of Hassi Labied and Merzouga, seeing a nomadic tent, visiting Khamlia village (home of Gnawa musicians), and exploring the Mifiss mines. You will also meet Berber nomads in the desert and hunt for fossils at the Tissardmine oasis. You will arrive back at the hotel around 3:00 p.m. to relax, watch the sunset over the dunes, and enjoy the silence of the desert. Dinner and breakfast are included.
After breakfast, we will leave the Sahara Desert and head out on a different road to Rissani, the second Islamic city that was built in North Africa after Kairouan in Tunisia. If time allows, you can visit the local market with its donkey park; the area is also famous for million-year-old fossils. After that, you will head up to Erfoud and set out between the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas mountains on the route to the Todra Gorges. We will stop at Tinjedad for lunch at Ksar El Khorbat, an extraordinary ksar where you will get the chance to see a local Berber cultural museum. Then, we will continue to the Todra Valley, where you will take a walk up into the towering Todra Gorges (600 feet high). The picturesque river valleys make for a beautiful journey towards the southeast of Morocco. You will spend the night in either the Dades Gorges or the Valley of Roses. Dinner and breakfast are included.
Your day begins at 8:30 a.m. with an exploration of the stunning Dades Valley. We will drive through the Dades Gorge, admiring its dramatic landscapes and the unique rock formations whimsically known as the "Monkey's Fingers." Our journey then takes an adventurous turn as we travel off-road through the picturesque Valley of Roses, a route that leads us to Kelaat M'gouna, Morocco's famous rose capital. Here, we'll visit a local distillery to see how fragrant rose products are made. Continuing to Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa," you'll have a break for lunch and the chance to visit either the Cinema Museum or the renowned Atlas Film Studios. Our final destination for the day is the beautiful Fint Oasis, a lush, hidden gem. In the late afternoon, you can take a peaceful hike through the oasis, experiencing its tranquil atmosphere and authentic village life. You will spend the night in a charming hotel or riad in the oasis. Dinner and breakfast are included.
After breakfast, we embark on a spectacular journey to Marrakech, crossing the dramatic High Atlas Mountains that divide the country. Our route takes us first to the magnificent Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. This stunning example of traditional Berber architecture has served as a backdrop for numerous international films. You will have time to explore its ancient, winding alleys at your own pace. Next, we follow the historic Salt Road, the ancient caravan route that once connected Timbuktu with Marrakech. Along this path, we'll visit the fascinating Telouet Kasbah, the crumbling former palace of the Pasha of Marrakech. After our visit, we'll stop for a delicious lunch, perhaps a traditional tagine with figs and almonds. In the afternoon, our adventure culminates with the breathtaking drive over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco at 2,260 meters (7,400 ft). You'll be amazed by the panoramic views and the incredible engineering of this winding road, built by the French in the 1930s. After descending from the mountains, we will arrive in the vibrant city of Marrakech at approximately 4:00 p.m. You will check into your hotel or riad for the night. Breakfast is included.
At 9:30 a.m., a local guide will take you to wander through the medina with its souks and alleys, where you will find a friendly atmosphere and a complete change of scenery in this imperial city. Its secret is its genuine, unspoiled charm, blending splendor with simplicity. You will pass thousands of stalls with foodstuffs, fabrics, and handicrafts, all enclosed by fabulous 12th-century ramparts where everyone attends to their affairs as they have for centuries. The tour includes Place Jemaa el-Fna, the richly decorated rooms of the El-Badi Palace, and the ancient minbar (pulpit) of the Koutoubia Mosque, which is ornamented with delicate sculptures and marquetry. You will also visit the Arabo-Andalusian garden that houses the Saadian Tombs and the Ben-Youssef Medersa, a Koranic school that, in the past, took in hundreds of students in a setting favorable for uplifting the soul. Next, visit the Marrakesh Museum, housed in the M’Nebhi Palace, to admire eight centuries of Moroccan arts and crafts. You will see the Chrob o Chouf fountain, an impressively sumptuous work with a wooden front dating from the 16th century. The tour continues to the Ménara, a small pavilion beside an immense ornamental lake, and ends at the Majorelle Garden. These lush tropical gardens, full of cacti, palms, and ferns, were the work of painter Jacques Majorelle. After the tour, you will be brought back to your riad. The afternoon is free for you to explore on your own.
Embark on an exciting day trip from Marrakech to the stunning Ouzoud Waterfalls, one of Morocco's natural wonders. Our journey takes us through the fertile plains near Beni Mellal, known as Morocco's "breadbasket," where you can see traditional olive presses in action. The scenic drive continues into the Middle Atlas mountains, winding through deep gorges and lush, forested hills. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by the breathtaking sight of the Cascades d'Ouzoud—a spectacular series of waterfalls that plunge into a deep gorge, creating an endless chain of natural pools. This beautiful location is perfect for a refreshing walk to take in the views, and for those who wish, a swim in the cool waters. We will begin our return journey to Marrakech around 4:00 p.m. You will spend the night back in your hotel or riad. Breakfast is included.
Our journey takes us from the vibrant energy of Marrakech to the laid-back coastal charm of Essaouira. We will depart at 9:00 a.m. for the scenic three-hour drive. Along the way, we'll keep an eye out for the region's famous tree-climbing goats and stop at a local argan oil cooperative, where you will learn firsthand how this precious "liquid gold" is extracted. We will arrive in Essaouira around noon. Known for its windswept ramparts and blue-and-white medina, Essaouira also has a fascinating ancient history. It was once the center of production for a prized purple dye, extracted from murex sea snails, which was highly sought after by the Roman Empire. Legend even has it that Cleopatra herself used this dye for the sails of her royal barge. After checking you into your hotel, the afternoon is yours to explore. Wander through the medina's relaxed souks and alleys, a refreshing change of pace from the intensity of the imperial cities. You'll discover its unspoiled charm, where life moves at a slower pace, and soak in an atmosphere that has remained authentic for centuries. You will spend the night in a hotel or riad in Essaouira. Breakfast is included.
Compared to the sprawling medinas of Marrakech and Fes, Essaouira's charming medina is refreshingly easy to navigate. Its locals, known as Souiris, are renowned for their warm and friendly nature, making a visit here especially pleasant. This welcoming atmosphere has long made Essaouira a magnet for artists, particularly musicians. Legendary artists like Jimi Hendrix and Cat Stevens have famously spent time here, drawn by the same creative vibe that fuels the city's renowned Gnaoua World Music Festival. Often called the "Moroccan Woodstock," this vibrant event takes place over four days at the end of June. You will spend the night in a local hotel or riad, with breakfast included.
Our journey continues as we travel north along Morocco's stunning Atlantic coastline. Our route includes a stop in the charming town of Oualidia, a serene coastal lagoon renowned as the country's oyster capital. After enjoying the tranquil atmosphere, we will continue to the vibrant city of Casablanca, our final destination for the day. You will check into your hotel or riad for the night. Breakfast is included.
On your final day, after a last Moroccan breakfast, you will be transferred to the Casablanca airport in time for your flight home. This marks the end of your unforgettable journey through Morocco.
